Archive 41

After meeting with the team, we decided to change the name of the exhibition to something a bit more relevant to the golden record and voyagers. We liked the sound of ‘archive’ something or something ‘archive’ as it is effectively a selection of images. Continuing with this idea of it being almost like a second golden record, we found out it was 41 years since the last golden record was launched, and therefore named it ‘Archive 41”.

We had a group critique on my logo designs, we decided to go with something stylistically still evocative of space or even sci-fi, but not as stylised as some of the logo designs were - it still needed to be very legible. We liked the bottom logo designs as they’re still simple, yet the typeface is a bit stylised and retro, and the 3 lines suggest motion like a rocket. I developed this typeface for the new name and experimented with the 3 lines. I used a new typeface ‘Anisette” because its geometric, modern and bold. The E at the end of archive worked well because the 3 lines could be stretched and I fitted them to the ’41’ square with them. I tried removing some of the parts of the letterforms such as the horizontal line of the A to look like the nasa logo, but it just looked to m much like a pastiche. The final logo ended up being the 4th one down.
